Graduates with natural commercial acumen and an instinctive flair for numbers and stats are sought after by businesses the length and breadth of the country. And the very best are drawn towards the role of Actuary.
Many of them have gravitated, in particular, to Aviva. In fact, you'll have a wealth of talent to call on for advice and support. The work ranks alongside (and often ahead of) leading financial institutions. And your decisions will affect an organisation worth billions. But it's worth noting that, the moment you walk out the office door, you'll have wonderfully vibrant locations such as Norwich and York in which to recharge.
What you'll do. Actuaries paint a picture of the future with numbers. And here at Aviva, those pictures predict how our life, pensions and general insurance products will fare, and how well our own IT, marketing and business operations will work.
It's certainly not the easiest job in the world. You'll need to pass the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries' exams. But while the average qualifying time throughout the industry is five years, we've had trainees pass in three. In other words, your talent, ambition and dedication will be in safe hands here. The fact you'll have the option to take up to 45 study days each year will help, too.
What you'll need. Aside from the commercial acumen we've mentioned, you'll need a 2.1 degree (or equivalent) in a suitably numerical subject. And you'll need to be comfortable working closely with people. After all, you'll be explaining highly complex issues in an uncomplicated way to people who aren't specialists in your area, but are the key business decision makers here at Aviva.
